This spring, Laura and I had the incredible opportunity to embark on a Travel Advisor Familiarization Trip, often called a FAM, with the luxury rail company Rocky Mountaineer. Over six unforgettable nights, we journeyed through some of Canada’s most breathtaking landscapes, visiting Calgary, Banff, Kamloops, and Vancouver. From majestic mountain views to exceptional service, every moment of this luxury rail adventure felt like a dream.

Calgary, Where the Journey Begins

Our trip began in Calgary, a vibrant city where modern urban energy meets sweeping views of the Canadian Rockies. We explored local culture, enjoyed the friendly atmosphere, and experienced the famous White Hat Ceremony, an iconic Calgary tradition that made us feel truly welcomed.

Banff, Iconic Peaks and Alpine Charm

From Calgary, we traveled to Banff, a mountain town that surpassed every expectation. We rode the Banff Gondola for panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and spent time strolling along Banff Avenue, discovering cozy cafés and charming boutiques.

Charming Lake Louise

Our day trip from Banff to Lake Louise was filled with natural wonders including Emerald Lake, Castle Mountain, the Natural Bridge, and the Spiral Tunnels. A visit to the legendary Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise was a highlight. Even partially frozen, the lake was stunning.

Day three marked the start of our Rocky Mountaineer GoldLeaf Service experience, and it exceeded every expectation. The glass-dome car provided panoramic views of mountain peaks, winding rivers, and endless evergreens. Meals were prepared by onboard chefs and served in an elegant dining car. Complimentary beverages, attentive hosts, and engaging storytelling made the journey exceptional.

We even spotted a rare white grizzly bear, a one in four thousand sighting. Our overnight stay in Kamloops introduced us to its lively restaurant scene and welcoming atmosphere.

The next morning, we boarded the train once more for the scenic route from Kamloops to Vancouver. Even though the journey was ten hours long, it flew by with fine dining, warm conversations, and incredible scenery.

Arriving in Vancouver, we immediately felt the shift from peaceful mountain towns to the vibrant energy of a bustling coastal city. We checked into the historic Fairmont Hotel Vancouver located in the heart of downtown

Vancouver

Our final full day was guided by Destination Vancouver and LandSea Tours. Despite the rain, we explored many of the city’s most iconic areas including Coal Harbour, Stanley Park, and the Capilano Suspension Bridge.

We wandered through Granville Island Market, sampled local flavors, and browsed the artisan shops. To finish the day, we experienced FlyOver Canada, an exhilarating virtual flight that showcases Canada’s incredible landscapes.

That evening, we gathered for a farewell reception with the Rocky Mountaineer team. It was the perfect ending to a week filled with breathtaking views and meaningful connections.
