Onboard Elegance: What It’s Like to Sail with Riverside Luxury Cruises
Laura on board the Vista Deck of the Riverside Debussy
When I first stepped onto Riverside Debussy, I knew I was in for something special. This wasn’t just another river cruise—it was a boutique luxury experience designed for travelers who appreciate comfort, cuisine, and curated moments. From the stateroom design to the gourmet dining and the calm pace of life onboard, Riverside Debussy delivered something I didn’t even realize I was craving: space to breathe and time to savor.
Whether you’re new to river cruising or already a fan of small-ship travel, here’s a closer look at what makes the Riverside onboard experience so exceptional.
A Floating Boutique Hotel
Bedroom of the Riverside Suite
Riverside Debussy feels less like a ship and more like a chic European resort. We stayed in a Riverside Suite, and the extra space was a true luxury. With its walk-in closet, expansive sitting area, panoramic balcony window, and spa-style bathroom with a glass-enclosed rain shower, it felt like a five-star hotel room—only floating gently down the Rhine. Every room includes butler service, a minibar, and room service.
Each morning began with espresso and river views, and each evening ended with plush linens, ambient lighting, and personalized turndown service. Throughout the ship, the same attention to detail was evident—from the light-filled atrium to the elegant lounges and spa. We especially loved spending time at the Vista Bar and Palm Court, where panoramic views and handcrafted cocktails made for a perfect afternoon pause.
Culinary Experiences Worth Savoring
The Waterside Restaurant, the main dining room on board.
Dining on Riverside Debussy was a highlight all its own. The Waterside Restaurant served refined, regionally inspired meals that wouldn’t be out of place in a Michelin-starred setting. And if you’re looking to celebrate something special, the Vintage Room offers a multi-course private dining experience with wine pairings that elevate every bite.
One of my favorite low-key moments? Enjoying coffee and pastries in the Bistro before a morning excursion. Even casual meals felt indulgent thanks to the attention to detail and focus on local ingredients.
Thoughtful Spaces and Quiet Luxury

What sets Riverside apart is how peaceful it feels. Our ship was not at maximum capacity and had only 50 guests on board. At full capacity, the Debussy holds 110 guests, but the ship is the same size as other brands that hold double the number of guests.
With fewer guests onboard than many traditional river cruise ships, there’s never a rush for a lounge chair or a line at the buffet, which is offered at breakfast and lunch in addition to a full à la carte menu and room service. Whether you’re in the spa, fitness room, or just relaxing on the Vista Deck, there’s a sense of calm and spaciousness that’s hard to describe but easy to appreciate.
Each evening, turndown service and a printed itinerary reminded us of the next day’s adventures, making it easy to settle into the rhythm of relaxed exploration.
