My Heart is Buried in Venice

This piece was written by my daughter Addison after our family’s trip to Italy, and her perspective on Venice is one I’ve come to love just as much as my own. Seeing a destination through your child’s eyes has a way of reminding you what makes it truly special.

A special moment together along the Grand Canal in Venice, a place that quickly became a favorite.

It’s Addison, and this past summer I traveled throughout Italy with my family. It was such an incredible trip. Even though we visited several different places, the stunning city of Venice was my favorite.

What Makes Venice So Different

Wandering through Venice means discovering beautiful canals and quiet corners around every turn.

When you think of Venice, you might feel like you already know what it’s like. Everyone has heard of the gondolas, the beautiful bridges, and the winding canals. But being there feels completely different.

Venice is made up of 118 small islands connected by more than 150 canals, and there are no cars at all. Everything happens on foot or by boat, which makes the whole city feel quieter, slower, and more peaceful in a way that’s hard to describe.

At the same time, it’s full of life. There are street vendors, small shops, and restaurants tucked into places you would never expect. Venice is also known for its colorful blown glass and detailed carnival masks, which you see everywhere as you explore. It really feels like a city you can just wander through and discover something new around every corner.

Wandering Through the Canals

The canals of Venice feel almost unreal, especially when the light reflects off the water.

There is something about the canals that makes Venice feel almost unreal. Watching the gondolas pass by, seeing the reflections on the water, and walking along the narrow paths between buildings made it feel completely different from anywhere else I’ve ever been.

It’s one of those places that feels just as special as you imagined, if not more.

Where We Stayed in Venice

A beautiful stay along the Grand Canal, perfectly located in the heart of Venice.

Right in the center of Venice, along the Grand Canal, sits a beautiful hotel called the Sina Palazzo Sant’Angelo. It is within walking distance of so many famous places, including the Rialto Bridge, St. Mark’s Square, the Accademia Bridge, and La Fenice Opera House.

I was lucky enough to stay at this hotel, and one of the things that stood out to me most was how beautiful and peaceful it felt.

Each room felt very traditional and elegant, with detailed wallpaper and large windows that looked out over the canal. There is also a quiet courtyard where you can enjoy breakfast surrounded by a garden setting, which felt like a calm escape from the busy streets.

If you are looking for a beautiful place to stay in Venice, I would definitely recommend this one.

One of Venice’s most iconic views, where the Grand Canal leads your eye to the beautiful dome of Santa Maria della Salute.

Venice ended up being my favorite part of our trip, and it’s a place I still think about all the time. It felt different from anywhere I’ve ever been, and I would go back in a heartbeat. If you ever get the chance to visit, I definitely think you should experience it for yourself!
